It all started with a sledgehammer to a wall in a suburban tract home one Christmas Eve in the mid-1980s. In short order, Ed and Bev Brandt had a tiled kitchen island, new cabinets and new appliances. The Brandts had completed their first DIY home improvement project and they weren’t yet in their 30s. A few years later, they bought a somewhat neglected 1915 home and restoring the original windows was among the many improvements they made. Little did they know.
After many years working at a defense contractor, Ed moved on and rehabbed historic homes for a decade, then came across a company that was restoring windows. A year into working for that company, the owner wanted to move on. Ed took over and started Artisan Restoration in 2014. Bev joined a few years after that.
Between then and now, Ed has been an engineer, a home renovator, and now a window restoration specialist. Bev has worked in the graphic design and printing industry, as a computer support manager, an art teacher, and now works in the historic trades alongside Ed. They have three children who all live in the St. Louis area: their son Carson and his wife Morgan, their daughter Korinna, and their youngest son Jarrod. Jarrod and Carson have decided that their parents aren’t so bad and work at Artisan Restoration as well.
